Bixler, McKean, Smith shine to give Stars title
WEEKEND TRACK & FIELD NOTES
At South Adams Boys Meet
-Bellmont’s Brett Johnson set a new county-best season mark in the 400 and finished second with a time of 53.55.
-Race Anderson of South Adams set a PR with a third-place time of 53.72.
-Hayden Brown set a personal best and finished 13th in the 800 in 2:21.65.
-Connor Garlinger of Bellmont had a great race in the 800, finishing 14th in 2:22.41 with a new PR.
-Ian Webb moved within striking distance of Deion Guise’s county mark (4:42.37) by finishing second to Minster’s Alex Albers in 4:44.09 in the 1600, recording the second-fastest time in the county in 2022 behind Guise.
-Webb’s teammate, senior Elijah Obringer, did what he did all season all long and stayed within a stride of Webb. Obringer crushed his season best by nine seconds to finish fourth in 4:45.38.
-Mark McKinley of South Adams set a new season best to finish 13th in the 1600 in 5:15.88.
-McKinley also set a PR in the 3200 to finish 13th. -Hunter Kongar continued to register the fastest 300 hurdles time in the county, lowering his time to 41.78 to finish in third place.
-The 4x100 relay team for Bellmont of Trevor Smith, Ben Sprague, Jamison Rumple and Landon Caston smashed their season best and finished fourth in 46.12.
-Jamison Rumple won the shot put and came just half an inch away from the season county mark (Corbin Hirschy-AC 47-06.5).
-Sam Plattner became the first Starfire to reach 36 feet in the shot put this season.
-Maverick Campbell set a new PR in the discus with a fifthplace distance of 110-03.
Girls Meet
-Adrienne McKean of South Adams ran the 200 for the first time this season and won the event with a new county-best time of 25.95.
-Alison Smith lowered her county-best time in the 400 and won the event in 1:03.78.
-Rounding back into form from a late start to the season, Bellmont’s Ellen Scott finished second to Bluffton standout Leslie Sprankles in the 3200, finishing in 12:39.47. Scott ran 12:18 at sectional last year.
-Brooklyn Bixler showed her outstanding performance by clocking an event-winning time of 47.79 in the 300 hurdles, eclipsing her sectional time from a year ago.
-Bellmont’s 4x800 team won the meet with a new county-best time of 10:38.16.
-Sierra Schmidt continued her local dominance of the discus, finishing second to Lauren Reiff of Bluffton in 107-02, a new PR.
At Adams Central Boys Meet
-Jacob Myers set a new team season best to win the 800 in 2:21.78.
-Logan Clark set a new season best (5:33.87) and finished sixth, while teammate Trevor Schwartz equalled his best time in 2022 (5:12) and finished in third place.
- Schwartz was second in the 3200 M with a new best time (11:04.01).
-The Adams Central 4 x 800 team (no names provided) were winners in their event with the fastest time so far this year of any county relay team (9:21.51).
-Trenton Hoffman continued to improve, setting yet another PR with a throw of 158-01 to win the discus.
Girls Meet
-Marissa Van De Weg lowered her season-best time in the 100 hurdles and won the event in 15.72.
-Van De Weg also won the 300 hurdles, finishing just ahead of her teammate, Madison Hamilton, who set a season best with a 50.50.
-Juliana Sipe set a new season best in the 400 and finished third. Her time of 1:09. 65 is just three tenths slower than her sectional time from last year.
-Gabi Landis lowered her season best by six seconds to win the 800. Her winning time of 2:34.29 is seven seconds faster than any other county runner this year.
-Abby Jauregui lowered her 800 mark by seven seconds and was fifth. She did the same in the 1600.
-Madison Gerber shaved 64 seconds off her best 3200 time and finished second. She also shot up to the top of the county leaderboard in that event with her 12:23.36.
-Bellmont won the 4x800 M Relay with a new county-best time of 10:38.16 with Ellen Scott, Sydney Keane, Madison Witte and Keeley Carpenter.
- Maggie Bluhm stretched her season-best distance in the discus by six feet to finish second to Fremont’s Claire Foulk.
-Faith Zuercher cleared 4-04 for the first time this year in the high jump and finished in sixth. She also set a new PR in the long jump, going five more inches than her previous best.
-Isabelle Schaffter finished third for Adams Central in the shot put with a distance of 26 feet.
-Maggie Bluhm set a new season best with a distance of 24-10.
