For the last 5 years Decatur Police Department (DPD) has assembled a bowling team of Police Officers to participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” fundraising event. This year’s team consisted of Police Chief Leonard Corral, Jr., Sergeant Luke Rumschlag, Officer Jagg Nunez, Officer Gabe Schwaller, and Reserve Captain/Adams County Councilman John Summers. All together raising nearly $2,000.00 for the program. DPD has developed a great friendship with the leaders of the BBBS program Josette Rider and Michelle Schwab, having been a BBBS “Lunch Buddy” to a Bellmont Elementary student for the last 4 years. Huntington Police Officer, and son to a member of the DPD also became a “Lunch Buddy” to a young student in his city. Because of DPDs great relationship with BBBS, the department has been invited to provide security for the guest speakers at the annual Gourmet Dinners in Fort Wayne. DPD has provided security for NFL Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw, Indianapolis Colts Punter Pat McAfee, Indianapolis Colts Linebacker Darius Leonard, and to this year’s speaker IU men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson.

Police Chief Corral stated “as Chief of Police I am a true believer in community policing. I cannot think of any more worthwhile opportunity for community policing than helping kids. “
