Two accidents at same place, same time
An unusual event occurred Tuesday at 4:08 p.m. with two accidents happening at the same location at the same time.
The Decatur Police Department noted the mishaps came at the intersection of N. 13th Street and Nuttman Avenue.
One accident involved vehicles driven by Janee N. Nussbaum, 46, W. Andrews Street, Monroe, and Brandon M. Swygart, 35, S. Fifth Street, Decatur. Police said the accident occurred when Nussbaum struck the rear end of the Swygart vehicle. Nussbaum noted she thought the other vehicle was moving forward from the intersection. The traffic light had just turned green but the vehicle in front of Swygart was still stopped so he could not move and Nussbaum could not stop in time to avoid hitting the vehicle causing $2,501-$5,000 in damage.
The other crash found vehicles driven by Reed W. Barker, 26, Auburn, and Daniel S. Bleeke, 63, rural Decatur, colliding. Both vehicles were headed north on 13th Street and Bleeke had stopped for a red light. Barker thought Bleeke was moving, however, and struck the rear end of the vehicle causing $2,501-$5,000 in damage..
Police noted the road was wet at the time and it was raining as well. Both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene.
