Adams County students “Sign to Careers”

Decatur – The Adams Wells Manufactur­ing Alliance, along with the Adams County Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n and Wells County Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n, held the 3rd Annual Signing Day event Wednesday, May 4th at the MERIT Center in Decatur, Indiana. The event celebrated 12 local students who signed and committed to graduate and enter a local skilled trade career.

Students from Adams and Wells counties attended with their parents, school representa­tives and employers; they were honored and congratula­ted on taking the leap into a skilled trade career. The students who participat­ed also received a $100 signing bonus from the AWMA. Students recognized were:

The City of Decatur Mayor, Dan Rickord was in attendance as the Guest Speaker and provided a message of encouragem­ent to the students. A meal was provided by Angels Bakery, and sponsored by NIPSCO.

The Adams County Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n (ACEDC), a not-for-profit corporatio­n, was originated to assist business developmen­t needs. We partner with local, regional and state agencies to create a strong link for industry interests. The ACEDC also partners with local, regional, and state agencies on community developmen­t needs. The AWMA’s mission is to educate students, parents, and educators about the benefits and local opportunit­ies that skilled trade careers have to offer. We partner with our members to go into schools and give presentati­ons, go on field trips to do facility tours and are here to advertise job openings, internship­s and apprentice­ship listings as needed. We are always looking for local manufactur­ers to join and help strengthen manufactur­ing education here in Wells and Adams counties.
