McKean wins three events at sectional
NEW HAVEN—Adrienne McKean won both the 100 and 200 meter races and also won the high jump to advance in three events as county athletes had a great meet at the New Haven sectional Tuesday.
Alison Smith also advanced in the 100, jumping up a spot from her fourth-place finish in the prelims.
The top three finishers in all events advanced to next week’s regional in Marion and several others will advance to make a field of 16 in each event as the days go by and athletes scratch and decide where to go.
Addy Wiley, one of the nation’s premier high school distance runners, swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 M races with fantastic times.
Brooklyn Bixler and Marissa Van De Weg clocked the fastest times in the prelims of the 100 M hurdles, but Ryann Parrish of Homestead won the finals, with Bixler finishing second and Van De Weg just out of automatic qualification in fourth.
Van De Weg got her revenge on Parrish in the 300 M hurdles, winning the event ahead of her and Bixler.
Two relay teams also advanced, with the Bellmont 4x800 team finishing third and South Adams taking the same place in the 4x100.
Sierra Schmidt ripped off a monster throw of 11509 to shatter her PR and finish second in the discus. Automatic Reg. Qualifiers 47.89
