Weaver set to retire after 50 years
After 50 years of service to the bank CeAnn Weaver has announced that she will be retiring from First Bank of Berne on June 3rd, 2022.
A lifelong Adams County resident, CeAnn graduated from South Adams High School in May of 1972 and began working at the bank one week later. Leslie B. Lehman, president of the bank at that time hired CeAnn after a brief interview.
CeAnn started in bookkeeping and over the years worked in almost every department of the bank. She is currently a Marketing and Administrative Assistant. CeAnn has served the bank in many capacities including assisting with the First Bank of Berne Swiss Days Race soon after its inception in 1974, eventually assuming management of the race. CeAnn was also involved in many of the community and bank related events held each year.
In the early 1990’s she took over the responsibility of maintaining the bank’s shareholder records. CeAnn recalls, “I have enjoyed my conversations with the shareholders and have gotten to know many of them and their families personally.”
In 1994 CeAnn was Assistant Operations Officers and in 1996 Assistant Vice President was added to her title. During these years she performed multiple duties in operations and accounting. A few years later after she began creating newspaper and radio ads she became Assistant Vice President Marketing. Throughout the 1990’s CeAnn also attended various bank related seminars and software training sessions. Additionally she became a member of the Indiana Bankers Association’s “Forty Year Club” after 40 years at the bank.
Up until the last few months when she began transferring her duties to other employees CeAnn was still preparing the agenda for monthly board of director meetings and the annual shareholder meeting, helping shareholders with their needs, accepting and processing donation requests, working with the marketing manager and assisting President Kent Liechty and other bank staff as needed.
Serving under five bank presidents CeAnn has seen numerous changes in the banking industry over the past half-century. “I have made many friends over my years at the bank and will miss those daily connections” stated CeAnn “I never thought when I started in 1972 that I would be here 50 years later.”
CeAnn, husband Tex and son Brendan, live west of Berne. After retiring, she plans to remain busy by continuing to work with the family business, and spending more time gardening and enjoying nature.
