Red Gold’s migrant housing
The April report of building permits issued by Adams County in rural areas and in Monroe and Geneva was led by two projects at the large Red Gold facility in Geneva and five new homes that cost a combined $1,319,000.
Red Gold is building two more housing units for migrant workers who are hired seasonally. The combined cost is $750,000.
Mark Wynn, the county’s building, planning, and zoning director, presented the report at the May 17 meeting of the county commissioners, showing 40 overall projects, the others being in these categories:
— Three residential additions for $22,500.
— Three residential remodelings for $315,485.
— 11 unattached buildings for $434,540.
— Six additions to unattached buildings for $144,000.
— One swimming pool for $15,000.
— Three decks at houses for $21,500.
— Two commercial building remodelings for $193,484.
— Two electrical system improvements for $2,000.
— Two solar power systems for $158,600.
The total value of the 40 April permits was $3,376,109.
Wynn also told the commissioners that he knows of at least two new homes being built in the rural parts of the county specifically so they can be hooked up to the county’s sewer system and said he’s been told by longtime sewer district leader Barry Scherer that some developers plan to create building lots in areas that have easy access to sewers, such as along CR700S, near Berne.
The commissioners voted 3-0 to approve four subdivision requests, three within one family:
Fleming Farms at CR350E and CR300S, with three lots measuring 32, two, and five acres.
Hindenlang Acres I at CR200N, with two lots, each measuring 26.75 acres.
Hindenlang Acres II at CR200N, with two lots, each measuring 18.52 acres.
Hindenlang Acres III at CR300E, with two lots, each measuring 40.33 acres.
