-

STAFF REPORT

Norwell, DeKalb and Bellmont will all share the NE8 conference baseball crown in 2022 after the Braves beat East Noble Tuesday and Leo knocked off the Barons. It is the first time the Braves have won the NE8 since the conference began.

The Braves benefited from an outstanding performance by senior Chase Lenegar, who registered 12 strikeouts in less than six innings of work. At one point in the game, he struck out seven East Noble batters in a row.

The only offense from East Noble came in the bottom of the first when the Knights strung together three hits in a row to score twice with one out. After that, Lenegar set down 13 batters in a row and only gave up one hit until he was relieved by Eli Laurent, who got four outs, three by strikeout, for the save. Jack Scheumann tied the game in the top of the second with a double and Bellmont took the lead with a two-out rally in the third. After Laurent walked, Magnuss Lee singled to bring up Trevor Walker. Walker singled to left to score Laurent.

The Braves added a fourth run on an RBI single by Isaiah Wellman and they took a 5-2 lead when Kobe Baker scored on a squeeze play by Trevor Walker.

While both teams had five hits, East Noble did themselves no favors by committing five errors in the important game.
