Patriots come back to beat Braves

Three hits by Isaiah Wellman and Ethan Garner’s first outing on the mound in 2022 were spoiled by three late runs by the Jay County Patriots, who won the non-conference game 10-8.

Garner allowed just one run in 3+ innings of work and left the game with his team leading 5-1.

Those five runs came on a double by John Ulman in the third and a basesclearing double by Wellman with two outs in the top of the fourth.

Garner left the game after walking two in the fourth and was replaced by Kobe Baker. Baker allowed both inherited runners to score but got out of the inning with the lead intact. Gavin Krull’s double in the fifth with two outs scored Magnuss Lee and Eli Laurent, but the Patriots stormed back and tied the game at 7-7, taking advantage of two hit batsmen.

Laurent pitched the sixth inning and gave up four hits and two runs and the Patriots struck out the side in the top of the seventh for the win.

Columbia City one-hits Jets in 9-0 shutout win

The Adams Central bats went cold and the Jets continued to feel the absence of Maddie Hill as they fell to Columbia City 9-0 Thursday night.

Brooke Thomas’ two-out single in the fourth inning was the only base hit for the Jets against Eagles ace Natalie Haselby, who struck out eight and walked none. The only other baserunner came when Melina Peralez was hit by a pitch.

Lilli Jackson and Addie Baker pitched for the Jets, giving up nine runs combined and a home run each.

Jets win ninth in row against Blackford

Since losing to Heritage at the end of April, the Adams Central Flying Jets have won nine in a row after beating Blackford at home Thursday, 15-1.

Jaren Hildebrand got his pre-sectional refresher and threw all five innings and struck out eight. He allowed just six hits and all were singles.

Kam Brown had a big game at the plate, going 3 for 3 and knocking in four runs. Hildebrand also knocked in two with a double.

Kolten Fawbush had two doubles and scored three runs.

Stars lose in nine innings

Nate Muselman threw four scoreless innings of relief Thursday, but after eight innings the score was still tied at 11 and Eastbrook had the last laugh, answering a South Adams run in the top of the ninth with two of their own for a 13-12 victory.

The Panthers hit Conner Young hard, scoring in all four innings he pitched and chasing him from the game after 11 runs. Muselman entered the game and started a double play to get out of the fourth.

The Stars loaded the bases in the ninth and Matt Steiner scored on a wild pitch but Muselman hit into a double play, with Colin Subler attempting to score on the fly out to left.

All five batters reached base safely in the bottom of the ninth and Eastbrook took the victory.
