Judith Converset
Judith A. Converset, 76, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 12, 1946, the daughter of the late John A. Kohne Sr. and Lois I. (Ponsot) Kohne. On September 17, 1966, she married Alan A. Converset.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and served under the tenure of 4 pastors as the bookkeeper and office manager for the Parish. For over 3 decades she sang soprano in the St. Mary’s Choir and had a deep love of music. She was a 1965 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School, where she was a member of the State Championship Rifle Team. She served 2 terms as Adams County Councilwoman.
Judy worked side by side with her husband for 55 years in business and they co-owned Cycle Isle, C.I. Distributing, and Electronics Plus. For the past 33 years they worked together at local radio stations WQTZ and WZBD.
She was a 2-time Indiana Snowmobile Association Champion. She played Women’s Slow Pitch Softball and was an Umpire for Decatur Park’s & Recreation Summer Softball. She was an avid Bridge player. Judy was also an accomplished seamstress making most of her daughters’ formal dresses including the bridesmaid’s dresses for several weddings. In the late 80’s and early 90’s she also made the uniforms and flags for the Bellmont Band Drill Team.
Judy loved spending time with her family, rarely missing any of her children’s events. As her family grew, she continued the tradition by attending her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Al Converset of Decatur; 7 children, Christina (Karl Kramer) Converset of Burlington, WI, Cynthia (Kevin) Richardson of Marietta, GA, Alan D. (Susie) Converset of Monroeville, IN, Nichole (William) Blume of Decatur, IN, Douglas (Kristyn) Converset of Zionsville, IN, Barbara (Corey) Affolder of Decatur, IN, Matthew (Jennifer) Converset of Decatur, IN; a son-in-law, Michael Weigler of Rochester, WI; 2 brothers, John (Marty) Kohne Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN, Joseph (Rickie) Kohne of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 sisters, Jackie France of North Canton, OH, Janet (Rich) Eloph of Decatur, IN; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, 3 grandchildren, a brother-in-law and a son-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 5:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Dave Ruppert, Father Steve Colchin and Father LeeAllen Fortin concelebrating. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Debt Reduction and Stillwater Hospice.
