Park updates identified

- By JUSTIN AYRES

After having the ARPA funds for his Department’s project approved by the County Council earlier in the month, Parks Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert presented the Adams County Board of Commissioners with a list of the changes that he is expecting to make with the newly obtained money. The department had been awarded $220,790 for the park improvements, and $25,938.58 for the fitness center.

Gilbert explained that the Parks budget has not increased for seven years and the group has been struggling to build capital for projects such as the recently approved ones. Now, with the ARPA funds covering some major projects, the Department will be able to rebuild their cash budget.

It was also brought to the Commissioners that the Parks Department will be sending in another ARPA request to the County Council requesting funds to repaint the Ceylon Covered Bridge. Since the bridge is property of the Commissioners, this would require their approval. The three decided to wait and let the ARPA request go before the council before any additional parks decisions were made.

For the general improvements to the fitness center, the following projects were presented with the cost associated with them:

Replacement of 2 treadmills, $14,738.
