Section Ate chosen for Madison Plaza

- JUSTIN AYRES

Not only has the last spot in the Summer Concert Series been distributed, but it was given to a band that was born and developed locally. Section Ate will be taking the Madison Plaza stage in downtown Decatur on Thursday, June 29 to bring music spanning from classic rock through country to the community.

“We play things from Pink Floyd to Mellencamp to Tom Petty. Our songs are recognizable to almost everybody,” explained Donn Dunno, who is one of the band’s remaining original members. “We have a very solid sound.”

Dunno explained that his entrance to the band came when a coworker came to him in need of a singer for his band’s weekend show after the original singer was put in jail. Despite some hesitancy, he decided to step up and following that showed the wheels were in motion. Though it rotated through some different names and some different members, this was the beginning of Section Ate as it stands today.

Current the band features Dunno on the keyboard and lead vocals, Bob Delgado, who is the other remaining original member, on the guitar and fiddle, Tim Laukhuf on bass, Tim Goodwin on the drums, and Jerry McIntosh on the guitar, saxophone, flute, and harmonica. The four latter members also contribute vocals.

“There have always been people who have wanted to hear our band play and it has been hard for them to go places we have gone,” stated Dunno. “It feels really good to go out and play here. Local people have wanted to hear us for years and this will be a great opportunity for that.”

Dunno has been living out at Bellmont Farms for 20 years and added that his wife has been here forever. He began playing music in the 70s and has been with Section Ate for 21 years. The band has played at the local Elk’s Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. Outside of Decatur, Section Ate has traveled to Lakeview, Celina, and Wapakoneta.

The band rounds out the final of the 14 spots that the Decatur Chamber of Commerce has filled. The completed schedule of the Summer Concert Series is listed below:
