Police probe mishaps

-

Three accidents were investigated in the county in recent days by law enforcement officials.

At 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Gordon L. Kilgore, 54, Saint Mary’s, Ohio, was west on SR 124 in his truck when he saw the lights of an Amish buggy traveling north on CR 500 W. Kilgore told police the buggy did not stop for the stop sign at the intersection and although he swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the buggy, he could not prevent an accident. His semi cab struck the horse for the buggy which flipped over and ejected the driver.

The driver of the buggy was not identified in the police report and it was noted the driver was not injured and the horse was taken from the scene with significant front leg injuries by a private vehicle. Between $5,001-$10,000 in damage to the vehicles was reported in the crash at which the Wells County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.

At 2:09 a.m. Monday, Madison M. Becher, 25, rural Berne, was northbound on US 27 near mile marker 850 when she struck a deer that was on the roadway. Damage to the Becher SUV was placed at between $2,501-$5,000

Hayduk, 46, rural Decatur, told police she had left something at home that she needed. She said she observed another vehicle approaching her that she thought was in the other lane of travel but it turned out the vehicle driven by Victoria L. Girard, 64, rural Decatur, was not and the vehicles collided. Damage was placed at between $2,501-$5,000 to the vehicles
