Police probe accidents

Four accidents were investigat­ed by law enforcemen­t in Adams County since last Thursday.

At 9:02 a.m. Thursday, the Decatur Police Department was called to a mishap at Russell and Grant Street. Police said Celia O. Sanchez Rea, 42, Belle Glade, Florida, was eastbound and turning from an alley onto Russell Street but she failed to see a parked car along the street. She struck the car with her pick-up truck (owner of car not identified in report) causing an estimated $1,001-$2,500 in damage.

At 3:08 p.m. Saturday, Decatur officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 13th Street and Nuttman Avenue. The report said Wilbur Morris, 64, Wren, Ohio, was in the far left lane and started to turn right when his vehicle was struck in the rear by another vehicle operated by Rachel Woodbury, 29, N. Fifth Street, Decatur. Police noted improper turning by Morris was the cause of the mishap that resulted in $2,501$5,000 in damage.

At 5:33 p.m. Sunday, Angela A. Ellenberge­r, 42, N. Ninth Street, Decatur, was backing out of a parking spot on the Dollar General lot but due to the glare of the sun thru her back window she could not see a nearby parked car (owner not identified) and struck it. A Decatur Police Department report noted Ellenberge­r waited at the scene for the owner of the other vehicle to return so the accident could be reported. A damage estimate listed for the vehicles was between $2,501-$5,000.

At 2:43 p.m. Monday, James C. Mann, 77, rural Berne, was southbound on CR 400 W when he noticed an approachin­g northbound vehicle. He moved his pick-up truck over to avoid hitting the other vehicle but when he did so the trailer he was pulling struck a mailbox causing $2,501$5,000 in damage to his trailer, mailbox and nearby property. The accident was investigat­ed by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
