ACCF helps Hope Clinic purchase AED

-

The Adams County Community Foundation has announced that the Hope Clinic, Inc. has received a grant for an automated external defibrillator. The Hope Clinic is a medical clinic serving at-risk clients, with the majority of their volunteers being senior citizens. Having an AED in The Hope Clinic for immediate care in the event of a cardiac arrest can be critical in life saving efforts.

Jim Heckman, Hope Clinic Executive Director and grant writer, expressed his appreciation for this grant, which has equipped The Hope Clinic with lifesaving equipment for sudden cardiac incidents. Cathy Stucky, ACCF grants committee co-chair, added that, “the Hope Clinic does so much for our residents that we are so very happy to provide this support.”

This ACCF grant was made possible through unrestricted funds sponsored by the Robert Eugene & Sandra Butcher, the Greg Fleming Family, Norman and Elizabeth Koons, and Reiny and Mariann Selking funds.

The first fund represents and remembers Gene and Susie Butcher and their family. Married nearly 55 years, Gene and Susie had five children: Eugene, Verlin, Karen, Nancy, and Melissa. They had a sincere appreciation for the community that helped raise their family and wished to provide an annual tribute to this community

The Greg Fleming Family Community Enrichment Fund provides support for many nonprofits in Adams County. In addition to keeping his excavating business successful, Greg also serves as a volunteer and as a Board Director with ACCF, Zion Lutheran Church of Decatur, the First Merchants Bank, and the Boys and Girls Club. In 2009, Greg was presented the notable Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s Stephen Decatur Award.

Norman and Elizabeth Koons have been married 63 years, but have been together since first grade in 1940. Elizabeth, the children’s librarian for 25+ years, and Norman, a GE designer and foreman for 36 years, are proud of their four children: John, Cindy, Greg, Jane and 26 great/grandchildren. Establishing this fund, the Koons wanted to give back to the community where they raised their family.

Reinhard and Mariann Selking were married in 1944. They are the parents of seven children, Judy (Schiffli), Jerry, Jim, Jeannie (Smith), John, Joann (Okoniewski) Joe, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Selking Fund provides added support to the St. Joseph Catholic School and other areas of the Adams County community as determined by the Adams County Community Foundation Board of Directors.
