Council on Aging receives funds from ACCF

-

The Adams County Community Foundation awarded a grant to the Adams County Council on Aging for activity room accessibility upgrades. After the Adams County Council on Aging settled into the MERIT Center, they began looking for additional ways to serve senior citizens beyond transportation. In expanding their vision, the Council on Aging worked to provide senior citizens a place to socialize with various activities in the MERIT Center Community Room. The ACCF grant assists the Council on Aging with updating the MERIT Center Community Room with upgrades to include an ADA compliant restroom and cheerful sunshine-yellow paint.

Michelle Lengerich, Adams County Council on Aging Director and grant writer, expressed appreciation to the ACCF for this support which provided funds for upgrades to the MERIT Center Community Room. Louise Ray, ACCF Board member and grants co-chair, noted that the ACCF is pleased to support programs for Council on Aging and the many activities Lengerich has organized and sponsored. The handicap restroom in the community room was a needed addition and shows support for these well-attended activities.

Council on Aging is located in the MERIT Center, which is behind the Gallery Restaurant. Lengerich has planned group trips, competitive bingo and card games, educational presenters, and welcomes residents to exercise by walking the hallways. Senior citizens are welcomed to utilize the services of Council on Aging. To learn more, call Michelle Lengerich at 260724-5316.

This ACCF grant was made possible through unrestricted funds sponsored by the Daniel Niblick Family Community Enrichment fund. The Fund was established in 2004. The long, respectable history of the Niblick family is recorded back to 1866 when Jesse Niblick and John Crawford purchased the landmark store on the corner of Monroe and 2nd street across from Founders Park. Since 1930, Dan Niblick with children Harold and Mildred operated the store, referring typically to its shortened version as simply: Niblick’s. Best remembered by local residents, siblings Harold and Mildred Niblick operated the store until it closed in January, 1996.

For donors interested in learning how they can establish a named fund in the ACCF, please call the ACCF for a no-obligation appointment at (260) 724-3939 or email: accf@ adamscountyfoundation. org.
