ACCF helps BPD get AEDs
The Berne Police Department’s mission is to serve the citizens of Berne and the general public to keep the community safe while having integrity and professionalism in all the duties they carry out. With this service, the Berne Police Department has added vehicles to their fleet. A recent grant from the Adams County Community Foundation assisted in equipping the new police vehicles with AEDs, which will help officers to be more responsive to medical emergencies.
James Newbold, Assistant Police Chief, Detective of the Berne Police Department and grant writer, has expressed appreciation to the ACCF for this grant which has provided support in purchasing an AED. ACCF grants committee member, Dan Claghorn, noted that the ACCF is pleased to be able to support the Berne Police Department with this equipment.
This ACCF grant was made possible through an unrestricted fund sponsored by the James Luginbill and Smith Brothers of Berne Community Enrichment Funds.
The James E. Luginbill Community Enrichment Fund was established by threetime mayor of Portland, Jim Luginbill. He had been an advocate for community foundations since serving with the Portland Foundation and the fund continues his community service
The Smith Brothers Furniture of Berne Company Community Enrichment Fund was established in 2002 by brothers Fred and Steve Lehman. Smith Brothers Company, established in 1926, has grown exponentially in the number of employees, pieces, styles of furniture produced, locations of availability of their product, fleets of transportation vehicles, and geographic space occupied. This fund is their pledge to the community to serve the current needs of their residents.
