Robert H. “Bob” Counterman, 77, of Decatur, IN passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 unexpected­ly at Adams Memorial Hospital. The son of the late Samuel and Esther (Johnson) Counterman, Bob was born in Adams County on August 25, 1945. On September 4, 1965, he married Mary Catherine “Kate” Hindenlang.

Bob was a member of Common Ground Nazarene Church. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2653 and the American Legion Post #43. He retired from General Electric at the age of 55, with 45 years of service and worked for Barker’s Wrecker Service for 50 years. He was currently working for Johnson Auto Sales and Krueckeber­g Auction and Realty. Bob served his country during the Vietnam era in the United States Army.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Catherine “Kate” Counterman of Decatur; 3 sons, Kevin E. (Jill) Counterman of Willshire, OH, Roger A. (Renea) Counterman and Richard L (Lindee) Counterman both of Decatur; a brother, Hank Counterman of Fort Wayne; 4 brothers-inlaw, Larry (Helen) Hindenlang and Gary (Gina) Hindenlang, Jim Lloyd and Terry King; 2 sistersin-law, Louise Ray and Diana (Mike) Bauman 4 grandchild­ren, Jonathon (Katie) Counterman, Joseph Paul Counterman, Lexy (Ryan) Sloney and Brandi (Tyler) Affolder; 1 great granddaugh­ter, Nadya Counterman and 1 great grandchild on the way; 4 step grandchild­ren, Deztinee Andrews, Dylan Andrews, Delilah Andrews and Dawson Andrews.

Bob was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul, and Victor Counterman and 2 sisters, Elane Lough, and Gloria Krick; a brother-in-law, Donald Ray; 3 sisters-in-law, Irene Lloyd, Shirley King and Esther Counterman.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from Noon – 4:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m on Monday, March 20th also at the funeral with Pastor Kevin Stirratt officiatin­g. An hour calling prior to service will be from 9:00 -10:00 a.m.

Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Military Gravesite rites rendered by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.

Preferred memorials are to Common Ground Nazarene Church or Adams County Community Angel Diabetes Fund.
