Six accidents reported to police

Adams County police officers probed six accidents in recent days within the county.

The Decatur Police Department was sent to the 900 north block of 13th Street for a single vehicle crash at 12:04 p.m. Friday. The report said Andres Romero, 39, Fort Wayne, was pulling up to a gas pump at Johnson’s Junction and forgot to account for the trailer he was pulling. He struck a vehicle owned by Shifferly Automotive, Inc, N. 13th Street, Decatur, causing an estimated $2,501-$5,000 in damage to the vehicles.

At 9:28 p.m. Friday, William M. Lindsay, 61, Johnson City, Tennessee, was southbound on Dierkes Street trying to avoid a train that was blocking the road but struck a parked vehicle. The owner of the second vehicle was not identified in the report. City police estimated damage at between $5,001-$10,000.

At 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Matthew K. Grayson, 32, W. Line Street, Geneva, was attempting to turn left from Monroe Street onto 13th Street. Due to the snow that caused icy and slushy road as well as high winds, Grayson’s vehicle began to slide and struck the curb on the west side of the highway damaging the tire and wheel assembly. Between $2,501-$5,000 in damage was done to the vehicle in the incident

At 2:20 a.m. Sunday, an unknown female driver struck an American Electric Power Company pole at the intersecti­on of Master Drive and N. Second Street breaking the power off at the base,The vehicle was in such a position following the crash that it appeared to be keeping the pole in an upright position. A witness to the crash told city police that a female driver exited the car and exited the scene after pleading with the witness not to call 911. Police were not able to immediatel­y locate the driver but the investigat­ion is continuing as they located a driver’s license inside the vehicle.Damage was estimated by police at between $50,001-$100,000.

At 7:51 a.m. Saturday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department was called to a two-vehicle crash on CR 450 and US 27. Police noted Justin L. George, 31, Ronda, North Carolina, was turning from US 27 onto CR 450 N when his van began to slide and it struck a northeast-bound vehicle operated by Sandra Myers, 72, rural Decatur, that was stopped at the intersecti­on waiting on a red light. Between $2,501-$5,000 in damage was sustained by the vehicles.

At 10:52 a.m. Saturday, deputies probed a single vehicle accident near US 27 and CR 400 S. Police said Natalie Hicks, 42, Brookville, was northbound and her vehicle was affected by a strong wind and icy road condition. She slid off into the ditch rolling her pick-up truck over once. EMS was called to the scene to treat Hicks for shoulder and upper arm pain. Police set a damage estimate to the vehicle at $2,501-$5,000.
