Corral working to improve hospital security
In his new role directing public safety throughout the Adams Health Network, Corral was already a couple steps ahead of the curve. In his report to the board of trustees, it was explained that the former Police Chief’s years and experiences with the Decatur
Police Department helped him get to know many of the group’s employees before he had even started.
As he began his efforts to increase security throughout the organization, the first thing Corral did was meet with every manager that was in charge of an AHN building. He discussed their concerns with them and took an inventory on what could be done to produce a safer work environment at each location.
In addition to these meetings, and the daily rounds he completes around the hospital to help display the increased security presence, he has begun to communicate with other area security officials to gather information on their operations. This includes Parview, Lutheran, Jay County Medical, and Bluffton Regional. Each chief provided Corral with a rundown of their security procedures and policies.
One specific aspect that Corral noticed that was brought before the Board, is that many of these hospitals already have Police Departments within them. He specifically used Security Chief Andrew Smittie of Fort Wayne Lutheran as an example, as Smittie recently received permission from his board to begin putting a PD together.
Corral’s report concluded by reminding the board that he remains a Reserve Officer with the Decatur Police Department. This will allow him to continue law enforcement training and receiving credentials.
