MONROE – A team with nine wins played a team with nine losses and when it was over, each one was at 10.

Adams Central’s Flying Jets lifted their record to 10-1 on Wednesday with a 72-38 runaway over Southern Wells, now 2-10, in a doubly-rescheduled game. The schools were supposed to have played on December 1, but AC’s latest tremendous football season postponed it until January 16, then, apparently, bad weather caused a one-day reversal to yesterday, the 17th.

By halftime, the Jets’ star center, 6-7 senior Isaac Schultz had 16 points, while the Raiders had managed just 18. “Sure Shot” Schultz ended with 24, which is around his average, on 11 of 15 shooting, snagged 11 rebounds, and pitched four assists. His first score, off a pass from Micah McClure, was a dunk.

Three other Central guys reached twin digits in points: Trace Maller 16 (making eight of nine shots), McClure 10, and Breyland Reber 10 on five of six accuracy. Maller added four rebounds and three assists. Reber snared five caroms.

The Jets really cleaned up inside, getting 28 of their 32 twos within six feet of the goal, including 25 layups.

However, for the first time in a long while, AC had no threes: going zero for six behind the arc.

Two senior Central reserves battled it out for second place in rebounding, with Kolton Littler taking the title over Carter Steele, eight to six.

SW answered with two double-figure scorers: Perrin Gates had 14 and C.J. Reber got 12.

The Raiders went four for 21 from distance.

The game was tied at two and four before the Flying Jets took off for good, dashing to a 24-11 lead after the first period.

Central had a season-high in rebounds (42) and “Maestro” McClure had a season-high in assists, with 10.

AC lost the ball just five times, while Southern Wells had 12 turnovers.

The Jets pulled off eight steals to SW’s five.

The Raiders had 23 rebounds and three assists.

There was no reserve game. Adams Central’s next contest, again in The Hangar, will be tomorrow versus Bluffton, with the Jets at 3-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference and favored to make that 4-0.

On Saturday, AC will travel to play a pretty solid Manchester bunch.
