Eugene J. “Minnie” Miller, 97, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born in Decatur, IN, on March 19, 1926, the son of the late Charles J. and Bertha A. (Steigmeyer) Miller.

He was a lifelong parishione­r of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a 1944 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864.

Gene served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He worked for 41 years for General Electric in Decatur and was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club.

He was also a member of the American Legion Adams Post 43 and the Loyal Order of Moose Adams Lodge 1311.

Gene was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Mark Miller, Leo Miller, and Donald Miller and 3 sisters, Lucille Rumschlag, Dorothy Wiseman, and Celeste Peterson. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2024 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation ½ hour prior from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Father Stephen Colchin will be presiding and military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus Building Fund.
