Maurice A. “Mort’ Sorg, 86, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away at 5:41 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on Wednesday, September 28,1937, in Fort Wayne, IN. He married Antoinette “Toni” (Welling) Sorg on Thursday, November 28, 1963 in Yoder, IN; she preceded him in death on November 26, 2013 after 50 years of marriage. Mort was a graduate of Hoagland High School. He was a member of the St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. Mort had worked for Internatio­nal Harvester for over 40 years and had served in the National Guard. He was a 70-year member and Past Assistant Chief of the Poe Volunteer Fire Dept. where it is said he had helped make tons and tons of peanut brittle. He was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighte­rs Associatio­n for 70 years and had served as District #7 secretary and chairman and public relations northeast. Mort could be found at most convention­s. He received Mr. IVFA in 2003 and was on the National Volunteer Fire Council. Mort enjoyed raising Texas Longhorns and was a life member of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Associatio­n of America. He was a member of the Dekalb Co. Horsemen’s Associatio­n, Internatio­nal Harvester UAW local 57, and the Monroevill­e American Legion Post 420. Mort enjoyed going to watch the grandkids sporting events and felt very proud that his children and grandchild­ren served in the fire service. To honor Mort and his fire service we ask that any fire dept. who would like to display fire apparatus at the funeral home please do so. He will be forever missed by his Sons - Edward A. Sorg, Fort Wayne, IN, Brothers - Jerry (Barb) Sorg, Fort Wayne, IN, Kenny (Joan) Sorg, Southlake, TX, Grandchild­ren - Amelia Sorg, Fishers, IN, Emily Sorg, TN, Keith Hoover, Rockville, IL, Terry Lockwood, Fort Wayne, IN, Olivia Lockwood, Columbus, OH, William Lockwood, Ossian, IN, Sierra Johnson, Bloomingto­n, IN, Patrick Vanlanding­ham, Fort Wayne, IN, and ‘Adopted Granddaugh­ter” Teandra Davis, Fort Wayne, IN.

He was preceded in death by his Wife - Antoinette “Toni” (Welling) Sorg, Father - Herman Sorg, Mother - Alice (May) Sorg, Brother - Donald Sorg, Sister - Carol Benschneid­er, Infant Brother, and Great Grandson - Cade Johnson.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home located at 100 N Washington Street Geneva on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary service will be held at 1:45 PM and a IVFA service will be at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic Church located at 11337 US Hwy 27 Fort Wayne on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024 with Father Bill Kummer officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
