Braves finish strong after suspended game resumes

- MATTHEW KLINGENBERGER Sports Reporter

The Bellmont Braves had a 10-2 lead over the Norwell Knights on April 26th when rain forced a suspension of the game.

Bellmont maintained the same form when the game picked back up on Saturday in Decatur, finishing off a 12-2 win.

Bellmont pitcher Bella Ashley quickly got through the Norwell portion of the fifth inning. Though Kara Brown reached base on a dropped third strike, she was stranded at first when the inning ended.

Bellmont (11-6, 3-3 Northeast 8) entered the bottom of the fifth inning only two runs away from bringing the 10-run rule into play and ending the game.

While Norwell (9-7, 3-3 NE8) retired the first two Bellmont batters, Aaliyah Faurote extended the game by hitting a double to left field.

Emily Bleke followed that with a two-base hit of her own. Faurote scored to give Bellmont an 11-2 lead.

With Bleke in scoring position, a Makenzie Mankey base hit into center field was enough for Bleke to score and put the game in the books.

Prior to the stoppage, Taylor Bauer hit two home runs for the Braves. She finished the game with five runs batted in.

Bleke, who also hit a home run on the night the game started, added an RBI on Saturday to finish the game with four.

Bellmont will host East Noble on Monday before playing at Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
