Artists sought for second Park Avenue Summer Stroll

- Marcia Greenwood

The Park Avenue Merchants Association will stage the Park Avenue Summer Stroll from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and it is seeking art vendors. The deadline to apply at park-avenue.org is April 30.

The application fee is $20, and the booth fee is $100. The first Summer Stroll happened in August 2023, four years after the last Park Ave Summer Art Fest was held.

In 2019, Jeff Springut announced that after 22 years, his Rochester Events would no longer produce the festival, a rite of summer for decades.

It was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic.

The merchants association was unable to find a replacement for Springut and canceled the 2022 edition, citing “too many obstacles to overcome.”

The scaled-down Summer Stroll also includes children’s activities, music, and raffles and activities at participating stores.

Art vendors will be set up on the grounds of Rochester Museum & Science Center, which is at 657 East Ave. and accessible from Park Avenue, and on TES Staffing grounds at 600 Park Ave.

Children’s activities will be staged at Park Avenue Green at the corner of Park Avenue and Barrington Street.

Park Avenue projects

Construction projects underway on Park Avenue and continuing through 2025 should not interfere with the Summer Stroll.

The work includes improvements to private utilities in the public right-of-way; removal of lead water service lines; milling and resurfacing pavement; and replacing sidewalks.

“The Park Avenue Summer Stroll organizers have made the City aware of the event, and we will ensure that any construction in that area is temporarily suspended during the event,” a city spokesperson said via email.
