The Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave. in Rochester. The program includes Von Suppé's Overture to “The Poet and the Peasant,” “Danza del Sol” by Kevin Day and selections from Berlioz's “Symphonie Fantastique.” Tickets are $5 at the door. The concert will also be live streamed on Hochstein's YouTube channel.
Ingrid Matthews, a respected Baroque violinist, will play a program of early German solo and accompanied works by Biber, Böddecker, and Schmelzer at the Third Thursday Concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Ave. in Rochester. Naomi Gregory will accompany Matthews on an Italian Baroque organ. Museum admission is $20 for adults and free for members.
The Penfield Symphony Orchestra presents "Americans in Paris" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the Penfield High School Auditorium, 25 High School Drive. Jared Chase will be the guest conductor. Tickets ($15 general admission and $1 for students) can be purchased at PenfieldSymphony.org.
Steam, Set, Print: Eco-Dye Basics begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Figgy Studio & Shop, 251 Park Ave. in Rochester. Students will learn the basics of ecoprinting on cloth. Register ($51) at RochesterBrainery.com.
The Spring Celebration Concert with the Brighton Symphony Orchestra kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Temple B'rith Kodesh Wolk Family Center Auditorium, 2131 Elmwood Ave. in Brighton. Conducted by Jonathan Allentoff, this concert will feature composer-in-residence Emmanuel Sikora, flute soloist Philip Nash and the Bach Children's Chorus. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
Genesee Country Village & Museum honors moms with free admission on Mother’s Day, May 12. The Historic Village will showcase a number of tasks and activities reflective of what life was like for 19th-century mothers. Find tickets ($16 for adults, $14 for students ages 13 to 18 and $10 for children ages 3 to 12) at GCV.org. The museum is at 1410 Flint Hill Road in Mumford.
