Manal Kadry

-

Manal Kadry, an artist grounded in community, returned to her Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2022, alongside her soulmate and husband, Dr. Omar Salamen. The funeral and burial have already taken place.

Manal was born on November 21, 1981, and grew up in the Bloomfield Hills area. She graduated from Lahser High School and the College for Creative Studies. Trained in Industrial Design, she became a well-loved teacher at several schools including her alma mater and its middle and high school, University Prep Art & Design. As principal of Manal Kadry Design Collective, her reputation in home design was one of creating beauty with comfort and purpose no matter the scale of the project. The achievement for which Manal felt the greatest pride was her beloved children, Dean, Noah, McKean, and Sophia.

Evidenced by the more than a thousand mourners at her funeral, Manal made an outsized impact on her community in her short time on Earth. Manal was known for her abiding smile and contagious laugh. She had an innocence that enabled her to connect with children giving each child a sense of worth and reassurance. She was committed to justice and empowering students; her role in the 2020 Juneteenth tribute mural on Woodward Avenue is a lasting reminder of her devotion to humanity.

Manal is survived by her children Dean, Noah, McKean, and Sophia Salamen, parents Dr. Othman Kadry and Mrs. Delal Kadry, siblings Dr. Razan Kadry (Dr. Ammar Abdulbaki), Dr. Bassam Kadry (Dr. Danya Gammas), and Dr. Bayan Kadry (Dr. Hassan Alosh), and nieces and nephews Hassan, Layla, Miriam, Othman, Kareem, Abraham, Sarah, and Mila.

Manal’s life and legacy will be passed on through the love of her community, creativity, children, and courage. She will forever live in our hearts.
