- MAC men — Ryan Ford

Central Michigan 82, Cal State Northridge 66:

Jesse Zarzuela continued his strong start with the Chips as the Coppin State transfer led CMU (2-3) with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting coming off the bench. Wednesday was Zarzuela’s fourth time in five appearance­s scoring in double figures. The Chips held the Matadors to 35% shooting overall and 20% from beyond the arc. CMU will stay in California for its next game, taking on California Baptist in Riverside at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Winthrop 101, Eastern Michigan 87: All five EMU starters scored in double figures, led by Tyson Acuff, who was 11-for-19 en route to 25 points at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico. Unfortunat­ely for EMU (1-5), the other Eagles shot a molten 65.4% from the field, with Cory Hightower putting up 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting and Toneari Lane hitting seven of 10 shots off the bench for 20 points. Hightower and Lane added seven and five rebounds, respective­ly.

Emoni Bates had 15 points, on 4-for-14 shooting (including four 3-pointers) and six rebounds, and Legend Geeter chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds for EMU, which returns home to host UC San Diego at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Horizon men

Detroit Mercy 70, Charlotte 49: Antoine Davis hit nine of his 21 shots, including six 3pointers, en route to a game-high 26 points in 38 minutes for the Titans. Davis’ dad, Mike, picked up career win No. 400. Jordan Phillips was the only other Titan to score in double figures, with 11 points, but UDM (3-3) thrived on solid shooting from the field at Calihan Hall; other than Davis (42.9%), the Titans shot 58.6%.

Wednesday’s game was the first of two this season between the Titans and 49ers; UDM visits Charlotte on Dec. 10. Next up for the Titans, a one-game Western road trip to remote Pullman, Washington, to take on Washington State at 4 p.m. Friday.

MAC women

Eastern Michigan 71, IUPUI 49: The host Eagles jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, with three starters — Lachelle Austin (19 points), Ce’Nara Skanes (17) and Tayra Eke (15) — scoring in double figures. Austin added seven rebounds two steals and an assist while Eke and Skates had 11 rebounds apiece; EMU (4-0) outrebound­ed the Jaguars, 45-31. IUPUI shot just 33.9% from the field, brought down by a 4-for-19 performanc­e from 3-point range. Jazmyn Turner was the only IUPUI player to score in double figures (10). The Eagles have a week off before hosting North Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 and North Dakota on Dec. 4.
