Ludvika ‘Louise’ Gorak WESTLAND

- Ludvika (‘Louise’) Pauline Gorak nee Smaza, loving Mother, Grandmothe­r, Great Grandmothe­r and Great-Great Grandmothe­r, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Nov. 21, 2022 at 97. She was a prayer warrior and prayed her rosary daily. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and cherished her family. She was born in Detroit, MI to parents Paul and Mary (Sordyl) Smaza. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Gorak and her siblings Joe Smaza (June), Helen Pociask (Ernie), Mary Ann Kendra (Pete) and Pauline Smaza. She is survived by her children Coni Gray (Bill), Ken Gorak (Lynn), Mary Lou Bohm, Margie Cavolina (Rudy), Michael Gorak (Marcella) and Angela Mago (John). She was blessed with 15 grandchild­ren and 20 great/great-great grandchild­ren. Louise’s parents were Polish immigrants and small business owners in Detroit. She was proud of her Polish heritage and was active in the Polish National Alliance. In addition to being a mother and homemaker for many years, she went to work in family owned/operated businesses including the Wise Owl Book Shoppe and Warren Valley Country Club. She enjoyed reading, dancing, yoga, water aerobics, and playing piano by ear. She was fortunate to travel the world. She had a kind, generous, easy-going manner. She was affectiona­tely known as Mama Lou or GG (Great Grandmothe­r). She taught those closest to her the values of family, friendship, faith, hard work and humility. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at LJ Griffin Funeral Home, 8809 Wayne Rd (at Joy Rd.) from 5-8pm on Sun. Nov. 27. Mass will be held at St. Mary, Cause of our Joy Church, 8200 N. Wayne Rd. (S. of Joy) at 10 am on Mon. Nov. 28. Donations in her honor can be sent to Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan or St. Mary, Cause of our Joy Church.
