Sterling Heights show part of Nugent’s final Adios Mofos tour
After a long, explosive onstage career that began six decades ago in Detroit, Ted Nugent is planning to tour for a final time, his representatives said.
Nugent on Monday announced a summer run called the Adios Mofos ’23 Tour, which will include an Aug. 11 homecoming show at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster. The full tour itinerary hasn’t been finalized.
Monday’s show announcement included a typically colorful if somewhat vague statement from the 74-year-old guitarist:
“My amazing American Dream sure as hell ain’t over, and no way can I even see it from here!” Nugent said. “However, my fiery vaportrail of flamethrowing all American R&B and rock ’n roll has been so much damn fun I can hardly believe it. I will write The Book, but for now, it’s Adios Mofo ’23! Thank you thank you thank you all!”
Nugent’s camp said Monday that “Ted is planning for this to be his last tour.”
Nugent made his name with Detroit’s Amboy Dukes in the late ’60s before embarking on a solo career that produced rock-radio staples such as “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Stranglehold” and “Free for All,” later scoring success in the ‘80s and ’90s with the supergroup Damn Yankees.
In recent years, Nugent has regularly grabbed headlines for his firebrand version of conservative politics, particularly in the arena of guns and the Second Amendment. He has been an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump and visited the White House for dinner in 2017 alongside fellow
Michigan-born rocker Kid Rock and former vice presidential candidate and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
