Aerosmith announces Peace Out farewell tour, including Detroit show
It looks like the end of the road for Aerosmith.
The much-loved rock mainstay has announced a farewell outing dubbed the Peace Out Tour, which will include a Sept. 18 stop at Little Caesars Arena.
“After 50 years, 10 world tours and playing for over 100 million fans, it’s time for one last go,” the band said in Monday’s announcement. Eminem — who tapped Aerosmith’s “Dream On” for his 2002 hit “Sing for the Moment” — is among the stars featured in a video touting the news.
The 40-date North American tour will open Sept. 2 in Philadelphia and wrap up Jan. 26 in Montreal, following a New Year’s Eve hometown finale at Boston’s TD Garden.
Tickets for all Aerosmith dates, including Detroit, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster.
The September concert will be Aerosmith’s first and presumably last visit to LCA, which opened in 2017. The band last played metro Detroit with a 2014 show at DTE Energy Music Theatre, part of a lengthy Motor City history that began with 1973 tour stops at the Michigan Palace and Masonic Temple.
Front man Steven Tyler (75), guitarist Joe Perry (72), bassist Tom Hamilton (71) and rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford (71) form the core of a band that has remained a fixture on rock radio and the touring circuit for decades.
Drummer Joey Kramer — who has performed sporadically with the group in recent years — will not be part of the tour.
“While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health,” Aerosmith said in a statement. “Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers — whose catalog is plump with hit staples such as “Walk This Way,” “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion” and “Back in the Saddle” — have focused their recent energies on a Las Vegas residency that launched in 2019. Last September, the band filled Boston’s Fenway Park for a 50th anniversary show.
