- Nochman, Lois 11/5/1924 - 8/27/2023 Davison, Michigan Lois K. Nochman, a distinguis­hed educator, religious leader, and athlete, died at the age of 98 on Sunday, August 27, 2023. She was born November 5, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to Annetta Wood Kivi and Peter Kivi.

As an educator, she taught English at the Highland Park Community College for over 30 years. She served as a higher educator representa­tive to the Michigan Federation of Teachers’ Executive Committee and was a member of the faculty advisory committee to the Governor’s Committee on Community Higher Education. She attended Ann Arbor High School, University of Michigan, and held a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan.

As a religious leader, she served the Baha’i Faith as a chairman of the Local Spiritual Assembly in Detroit and as a secretary of the Huntington Woods Local Spiritual Assembly. She served as the secretary on the National Committee of the Davison Baha’i School, and also taught at Baha’i schools in Davison, Michigan, Beaulac, Quebec, Canada, and Greenacre, Maine. For her service to education and religion she received the Women’s Movement plaque from the Women Lawyers Associatio­n of Michigan.

After her retirement from teaching, she turned to swimming, winning her first award at the age of 68 in the Michigan Senior Olympics. Since then, she has been named to the Internatio­nal Swimming Hall of Fame. She set over 40 world records, many of them still unbroken.

She is profiled in Who’s Who in America, Who’s who in American Women, and the Senior Olympics Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her three children, four grandchild­ren and four great grandchild­ren. Her husband of over 60 years, Marvin A. Nochman, predecease­d her in 2014. Her Brother, Louis Kivi, also predecease­d her.

A funeral service for Lois will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. A luncheon will occur Friday, September 1, 2023 at 12:00 PM, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. A graveside committal service will occur Friday, September 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1101-11389 Macon Road, Saline, MI 48176.
