- MAC/Horizon men — Ryan Ford

Eastern Michigan 72, Hampton 69:

The host Eagles jumped out to a 19-point lead in the first half, then held off the Pirates, who made it a three-point game with 39 seconds remaining. With Hampton going for the tying basket in the final seconds, Tyson Acuff had his second steal of the game to seal the victory for EMU. Acuff had 17 points in the first half and finished with 29 overall on 9-for-18 shooting. Orlando Lovejoy added 15 points and four assists for EMU. The Eagles (6-5) wrap up their nonconfere­nce slate with a visit from Division II Northwood at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 before opening MAC play with a visit to Bowling Green on Jan. 2.

Cleveland State 90, Western Michigan 77: Seth Hubbard poured in 23 points for the visiting Broncos, but WMU was unable to stop the Vikings’ Tristan Enaruna, who answered with 31 points and nine rebounds in Cleveland. The Broncos made eight of 28 shots beyond the arc, led by Hubbard, who had four 3s on 12 attempts. WMU (2-9) will attempt to snap its five-game skid with a visit from cross-town foe Aquinas at 4 p.m. Dec. 29, then open MAC play with a visit to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami on

Central Michigan 75, Detroit Mercy 63:

The visiting Titans’ brutal start continued as they made just eight of 32 attempts from the field in the first half to fall behind by 13 at the half. UDM outscored CMU, 32-31 in the second half, but it was too little, too late. CMU’s Brian Taylor led all scorers with 19 ooints on 6-for-12 shooting while Derrick Butler and Anthony Prtichard added 15 apiece for the Chips. Ryan Hurst hit just three of 14 shots, including two of 11 3-point tries, but led the Titans with 16 points. The Chips (5-6) end their nonconfere­nce slate with a visit to Loyola Chicago at 2 p.m. Dec. 30. UDM (0-12), meanwhile, will look for its first victory of the season in its final nonconfere­nce game, visiting North Carolina State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

MAC women

Notre Dame 84, Western Michigan 47:

The Broncos struggled with their shots all night in South Bend, Indiana, hitting just 33.3% (and 20.8% on 3s) from the field, and struggled even more on the boards, as the host Irish outrebound­ed them 55-28. Kaitlyn Zarycki led

WMU with 16 points on 7-for-16 shooting and added three assists and two blocks, while Artemis Kouki chipped in 12 points thanks to four 3-pointers (on nine attempts). The Broncos (5-5) have a couple weeks off before opening conference play with a visit from Ball State at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.

Horizon women

Detroit Mercy 72, Florida A&M 66: Myonna Hooper and Irene Murua combined for 11 points in the fourth quarter as the host Titans rallied from a three-point deficit to open the fourth quarter and locked in their best 13-game start since the 1999-2000 season. UDM hit 7 of its 12 shots in the final frame. Emma Trawally Porta led the Titans with 16 points and added six rebounds and two assists while Hooper had 17 points and five rebounds and Murua chipped in 15 points and a team-high eight boards in 37 minutes. Next up, the Titans (9-4, 2-0 Horizon) will attempt to match their win total from the past four seasons combined as they return to conference play with a visit from Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. Jan. 1.

Miami (Ohio) 68, Oakland 66 (OT): The visiting RedHawks hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final 19 seconds of regulation to force overtime, then hit a jumper late in OT to down the Golden Grizzlies, who turned it over four times in the extra period. Brooke Quarles-Daniels led the Golden Grizzlies with 22 points (on 9-for-17 shooting) and six rebounds. Maddy Skorupski hit a pair of 3s and finished with 15 points for OU. The Golden Grizzlies (4-6) get a week off before returning to Horizon league play with a visit from NKU at 7 p.m. Dec. 29.
