Edward Albert Riordan passed into the arms of our Lord on January 30, 2024. He was 78 years old and preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Riordan, maternal grandparen­ts, Albert and Ethel Roth, paternal grandparen­ts, Bernard and Sara Riordan, his uncles George (Violet) Roth and Thomas (Cherie) Riordan, his aunt Mary (Frank) O’Neil, and cousins Alan and David Roth. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hoadley, sons John and Andrew Riordan, daughter Carrie (Kyle) Garlett, brother George Riordan (Karen Clarke), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ed was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. He graduated from Seaholm High School and attended Michigan State University, University of Missouri, and University of Kentucky. He was chairman of the marketing department at Wayne State University School of Business Administra­tion and taught automotive marketing and consumer behavior, retiring as a full professor after 35 years of teaching. Known for his love of cars and keen sense of humor, Ed could always be relied upon to brighten up a room and make people laugh. Ed was a gifted artist, a skilled marksman, had an encycloped­ic knowledge of R&B and loved the outdoors. He was a devoted husband and father who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be at A.J. Desmond on Woodward on Friday, February 2nd, from 4-8PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Beverly Hills on Saturday, February 3rd, with friends and family gathering at 9:30am and Mass at 10am. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery directly afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations in Ed’s memory to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit or the Ruffed Grouse Society of Michigan.
