Here’s when new TV broadcaster Jason Benetti debuts with Tigers

- Evan Petzold

The Detroit Tigers announced the television and radio schedule on Monday for spring training games ahead of the 2024 season, with six games on TV and 18 games on radio.

The spring training schedule begins Feb. 24 against the New York Yankees at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida, home of the Tigers’ spring training facility.

The spring training opener can be heard on radio, but it won’t be available on TV. The first game to air on Bally Sports Detroit is Feb. 25 against the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte, Florida, as a simulcast via Bally Sports Sun.

The other five TV games will be produced from Lakeland: March 4 (Boston Red Sox), March 7 (Toronto Blue Jays), March 12 (Minnesota Twins), March 19 (Philadelphia Phillies) and March 21 (New York Mets).

New TV play-by-play broadcaster Jason Benetti, hired away from the Chicago White Sox earlier in the offseason, will make his Tigers debut in the March 4 game. He will call four of the five TV games in Lakeland, with radio play-by-play broadcaster Dan Dickerson covering the other TV game.

Dickerson will spent most of the radio broadcasts working with analyst and former player Craig Monroe. WXYT-FM (97.1) is airing five games, and WXYT-AM (1270) is airing 13 games.

The Tigers will announce the full lineup of broadcasters for TV and radio before spring training games begin. Greg Gania, who calls games for Double-A Erie, will fill-in for Dickerson on the radio broadcast when Dickerson fills in for Benetti on the TV broadcast.

One game will be streamed on the Tigers’ website: The first-ever Spring Breakout game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. March 16 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida. Prospects from the Tigers will play against prospects from the Phillies.

Additional Tigers games in spring training will be broadcasted on TV by opposing teams, available by streaming MLB.tv for viewers outside of Michigan. Home television territory blackout restrictions apply for those games.

Diamond Sports Group, which owns Bally Sports, has the streaming rights to the Tigers, so local games can be streamed on Bally Sports+ by fans in Michigan.
