Bulls F Williams to have season-ending foot surgery

CHICAGO – Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams will have season-ending surgery on his left foot, the team said Friday.

Williams has been sidelined since Jan. 25 with what was initially diagnosed as acute bone edema. Subsequent imaging revealed a stress reaction.

Drafted by Chicago with the No. 4 overall pick out of Florida State in 2020, Williams averaged 10 points and 3.9 rebounds in 43 games this season. He has averaged 9.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in four years.

The Bulls were ninth in the Eastern Conference at 26-30 following a loss to NBA-leading Boston on Thursday night.

Jacob Poeltl had 12 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Dejounte Murray led Atlanta with 24 points. De’Andre Hunter added 22 points. Hawks All-Star Trae Young, who averaged 34.3 points in the three previous games against the Raptors this season, was held to 11 points on 4-for-13 shooting. He had seven assists. 76ers 104, Cavaliers 97: Tyrese Maxey scored 24 points, and Cam Payne added 16 points off the bench as host Philadelphia sent Cleveland to its second straight loss. Maxey was having a quiet game until the fourth quarter, when he scored 15 of the Sixers’ final 20 points. Jarrett Allen had 24 points and Darius Garland added 20 points and nine assists for the Cavaliers, who had their six-game road winning streak halted.
