Eagles, Packers to open season in Brazil on a Friday

- — Wire reports

Brazil will host the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6, the opening weekend of the new season, the NFL said on Wednesday.

The clash, at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, will be the first NFL game in South America and the first Week 1 game held on a Friday evening since 1970.

The Eagles, the designated home team for the fixture, played the Jacksonville Jaguars at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2018 and the Packers met the New York Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2022.

The NFL plays regular season games in London and Germany, and in December clubs approved an increase in international games from four to eight in 2025, with Madrid also penciled to host one.

Jags LB Allen gets $150 million deal

Jacksonville Jaguars Pro Bowl pass rusher Josh Allen agreed to a five-year, $150 million contract after what he said Wednesday was an emotional rollercoaster of negotiations.

The Jaguars put the franchise tag on the 26-year-old Allen in March, blocking him from free agency as head coach Doug Pederson said the two sides were fully committed to working together on a long-term agreement. Allen has played only with the Jaguars since he was selected seventh overall out of Kentucky in 2019.

Allen set a franchise record with 17.5 sacks in 2023 and his 45 career sacks are just 10 away from the team record (55, Tony Brackens). He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice in his first five seasons.

Under the terms of the franchise tag, Allen was guaranteed $24 million in 2024. Instead, he’ll reportedly receive $88 million guaranteed.
