Take your pooch out for a cocktail at these events this summer

- Susan Selasky

Get out the leash and get ready to enjoy cocktails with your pooch companion.

Summer doesn’t officially start until June 20, but the season for Canine to Five’s “Drinking with Dogs” gatherings begins Tuesday.

Now in its 17th season, Canine to Five, a local dog day care, boarding and grooming facility, kicks off the annual event Tuesday evening at the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard. Each event this year will also feature a local dog rescue organization.

“We are so excited to start this summer at The Freight Yard. It is a great space to bring your dog, have a drink and grab a bite,” Liz Blondy, Canine to Five owner said in a news release. “We are so excited to offer more locations and events for Drinking with Dogs this year. It is a great chance for dog lovers to get together and meet new people at a bunch of locations in southeast Michigan.”

This year, there are eight events at venues across metro Detroit starting in May and running through October. At each event, which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m., dogs are required to be on leash the whole time. The final October event features a Halloween costume party.
