Bet you thought a snap-together kit meant that you give up something in the detail and looks department? Not so with the Polar Lights GT, which comes in the retro-cool Heritage blue-and-orange Gulf livery, paying homage to the John Wyer–run Gulf racing GT40s that won Le Mans two years in a row in 1968 and 1969. But this GT is thoroughly modern, and features a nicely detailed 550hp supercharged 5.4L V-8 and an accurate interior. The Heritage scheme isn’t just fantasy—Ford offered it as a factory option on its supercar in 2006 (sans Gulf decals). The kit provides the decals, so you can complete the look if you want to, or you can leave them off for a factory look. The engine comes with chrome parts, the windows are clear plastic, the tires are rubber, and the body and other chassis pieces are modeled in blue. This kit has more detail than many prebuilt models costing considerably more, and you get the fun of building it.
