The Past Is Calling Us

Die Cast X - - 8 -

The diecast world is all about respecting the past. For collectors, it’s identifying those certain vehicles that deserve a spot on our shelf and in our hearts and then seeking them out. For manufacturers, it’s about doing those machines honor by replicating those vehicles faithfully and with the right colors and options that speak to us. If you’re reading this, then you know that the process is infinitely more complicated and nuanced than anything I can say in a few sentences. You probably have also experienced when it all comes together and it suddenly feels like a particular model picks you instead of the other way around. That’s exactly how I felt about this issue’s cover story. Early on, I was wandering through product-announcement emails, and I started to see a pattern. By some strange coincidence, it seemed that there were a bunch of cars from 1969 coming out. So I started searching specifically for them, and I quickly realized it wasn’t a coincidence at all. Suzanne Noel
