Die Cast X

THE ONE AND ONLY RS/SS

-

Chevrolet is an interesting case when it comes to R-themed vehicles. They’ve only really done one model—the Camaro with the Rally Sport appearance package—but so significant has been that one car’s influence and longevity that it made an indelible mark on automotive culture. It was offered from the beginning, and the 1967-69 RS/SS Camaros are some of the most collectible (although the RS package could be ordered on any Camaro.) The package has always been defined by unique front end treatment. From ’67-69 that meant a full-width grille with hideaway headlights, plus cosmetic hood vents and a few other trim pieces. For the second-generation Camaro in 1970 the RS package introduced the famous “split bumper” look with round driving lights. Since then RS Camaros have been offered on and off, but never with the impact of those first two designs.

?? ?? Maisto has produced both first- and second-generation Rally Sport Camaros in 1:18. This ’67 convertible is an RS/SS 396—making it just about the highest optioned first-year Camaro you could order. They do a nice job capturing the fullwidth grille and hood vent inserts.
