ZIS-5 RAIL TRUCK
The ZIS-5 truck chassis was converted for use on railroad tracks simply by removing the road wheels and replacing them with rail wheels. This was a valuable option, both because it was quick to switch over, and because in some areas the railway was the only practical way of travel—particularly in the winter. Not only could troops and goods be carried by this truck, but it could also tow several trailers, massively increasing its payload.
