Die Cast X

JOHNNY LIGHTNING TRUCK AND TRAILER TRIO

-

The ’73 Caprice station wagon dates back almost as far as the FJ, debuting in 2007. It first saw trailer duty in 2017 in the Gone Fishing series, and now it’s pulling a decent size camper. To do it the Caprice is equipped with a torquey 454 big block, making sure this family truckster doesn’t get bogged down on any big hills along the turnpike. The casting includes the new-for-1973 wagon power clamshell tailgate and emblems with the new designation of “Caprice Estate” (previously “Kingswood”) on the rear fenders. JL calls the color “Custom Golden Yellow” which was a Chevy paint option in the late ’50s to the early ‘60s, and it contrasts nicely against the wood paneling. The trailer carries no specific branding, but it looks authentic to the period and has cool features like semi-translucent windows behind decals that simulate blinds. Interestingly, all three of the trailers in this set use the same base plate, meaning their footprint is effectively identical and they are interchangeable behind any of the series vehicles if, for instance, you decided you wanted to hitch the Ford’s enclosed trailer behind the Caprice.
