Ser­gio Mar­chionne, the chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of Fiat Chrysler and the man cred­ited with trans­form­ing Fiat and Chrysler brands (and sav­ing Chrysler from fail­ure after the Great Re­ces­sion), passed away at the age of 66.

Com­mer­cial Car­rier Jour­nal re­ports that diesel taxes will in­crease in Ok­la­homa, In­di­ana, South Carolina, Ten­nessee, Mary­land, and Con­necti­cut. This is the first in­crease in Ok­la­homa since 1987. Ne­braska’s diesel-fuel tax will de­crease, how­ever.

Volvo’s first U.S. man­u­fac­tur­ing plant be­gins ve­hi­cle pro­duc­tion in South Carolina in the fall. A com­pany spokesman says,

“The Charles­ton plant es­tab­lishes the U.S. as our third home mar­ket.”

A law firm in Cleve­land gave stu­dents an op­por­tu­nity for $1,500 in schol­ar­ships when they sub­mit­ted an es­say fo­cused on dis­tracted driv­ing.

The Na­tional In­sur­ance Crime Bureau’s “Hot Spots” re­port for high­est per-capita auto-theft rate in 2017 re­veals Al­bu­querque, New Mex­ico, is in the num­ber one po­si­tion, the same rank­ing as 2016. The re­port does note that theft na­tion­wide is on the de­cline.

Curt Man­u­fac­tur­ing, maker of tow­ing prod­ucts, is cel­e­brat­ing its 25th an­niver­sary.

Chero­kee Freight Lines out of Cal­i­for­nia con­verted its fleet of trucks to use Neste’s re­new­able diesel.

Oshkosh De­fense re­ceived an­other or­der from the U.S. Army for Joint Light Tac­ti­cal Ve­hi­cles. The con­tract for 1,574 ve­hi­cles is worth $484 mil­lion.
