ANY SCORCHED RV TRAILERS?
I just bought a new truck, and then I began to consider the potential for heat damage to a fifth wheel travel-trailer during an exhaust filter regeneration. The tip of the tailpipe on my new Duramax is only a short distance from the trailer.
I’ve searched the Internet and can’t find anyone reporting a problem like this. The GM literature says the exhaust tip was designed to “moderate” temperatures at the exhaust tip, but I do wonder whether driving for a few hours on the highway during the summer would cause any damage to my trailer.
I would like to know whether you have encountered any discussion about this.

Actually, we have heard from Rvers who were initially concerned about the same thing as you, but after a season of towing they discovered that the possibility of trailer damage due to a hot exhaust was not a problem.
Because of the higher average exhaust temperatures produced by the engine while towing, the regen system will likely never activate. Also, GM programmed the system to not begin a regen cycle if the vehicle is moving at a speed of below 30 mph. These combine to reduce the possibility of higher-thannormal exhaust temperatures at the exhaust tip. Be happy, no worries!
