DIESEL 101 – NEW TO DIESEL? EDITOR ADAM BLATTENBERG GIVES YOU A CRASH COURSE
Event season is here and I can’t wait to go racing, pulling, off-roading or just play on the dyno. Well, actually I’m in California, I raced all winter... What I can’t wait for is to see more diesels (there’s not much at my home town dragstrip, so I have to beat on the gassers all by myself most times, ha, Corvette owners don’t like me…).
The off-road events are already in full swing. King Of The Hammers just finished, I spent a few days in the dirt watching trucks, jeeps, buggies and one-offs battle the rocks, sand and wide open desert. ATS’S Gauntlet Challenge/ Let It Roll dyno event is this weekend. Denver here I come. Two weeks after that is the NHRDA race in Arizona. I’ll be racing my truck in that one. Two weeks after NHRDA I head to Moab, Utah for Easter Jeep Safari (EJS). For the last few years at EJS we’ve been going on the “Fullsize Invasion” trail ride trying to take it over with full-size diesels. Last year was fun, about a quarter of the group was burning #2. Everyone’s invited so if you have time at the end of March, head out. We’ll have all the info on our Facebook page and you can see what it was like at last years event on Dieselworldmag.com. After Moab is Randy’s Transmissions Dyno Day in Toelle Utah. This is his first event at the new facility, but knowing Randy, it’s gonna be a hellova time. Juice boxes and burnouts!! Then it’s back to racing for me, up in Sacramento CA for the NHRDA event there. I week off and then I fly out to Rudy’s in North Carolina for the Outlaw Diesel Super Series season opener on April 27th and 28th. That’s going to be a great event as it always is, and we’ll be live feeding it on Facebook and Instagram. Actually we’ll be live feeding every single ODSS race this season. We’re the official left lane sponsor for the ODSS drags, so you’ll be seeing a bunch more from this great event series. Everyone can race in the ODSS series, head out to one and give it a shot. After Rudy’s I’m home for a few days and then head out to Ultimate Callout Challenge (UCC) in Indy. UCC will also get a live feed on our website and I’ll be doing a bunch of live feeds myself as I walk the event all weekend. Look for those on Facebook or Instagram.
That’s eight events in just over three months for me, sounds about right for this time of the year. If you haven’t been to a diesel drag race, sled pull, dyno event or anything else diesel related lately do yourself a favor, pick at least one and make it a point to go. Diesel performance has come a crazy long way in the last few years. It really is amazing to see what’s being done with diesel, and seeing it in person is so much better than reading about it here or watching it on our other digital platforms. If you get a chance to make it to UCC or any NWDC or ODSS event, make sure to sign up for our giveaways and get your free subscription to the digital version of Diesel World Magazine. We’re giving away some great truck parts, swag and more at each event. There’s a sign up sheet at the entrance, if you can’t find it look at our Facebook page the day of the event, we’ll have the location there. Stay safe out there and have fun!
