GRAPHIC DESIGN

Do It Yourself - - MAKE IT -

Get the designer look of a patterned sisal, above left, without the hefty price tag. Measure and mark the center of the rug with a pencil, then apply 2-inch painters tape diagonally from the center to one corner. Add another length of tape beside the first, overlapping the tape strips slightly to create a stripe about 4 inches wide. Tape a second set of lengths from the center to the adjacent corner to form a V. Trim a perfect point where the V legs intersect. Repeat this process until the whole rug is taped with V shapes about 4 inches apart. Paint between the tape using chalk-finish paint (A). (Tip: Mix one or two drops of water into each cup of paint to ensure smooth application.) Add more coats if desired, let it dry, and carefully remove the tape (B).
