Ready to Roll
Inheriting a 2007 Four Winds camper meant Kate and Dave Malo could take their kids, Thomas, 8, and Allie, 5, on all kinds of adventures. Although everything was functional and relatively new, the camper’s interior was brown, brown, brown. Time for a quick update!
FRESH START As soon as Kate and Dave towed the camper to her parents’ land outside Des Moines, Kate—a graphic designer and stylist—stripped out the ugly trim and unnecessary overhead cabinets. In the kitchenette, the couple replaced booth-style seating with a new 18-inch cabinet and countertop that serves as prep space and a kidfriendly snack spot. They also replaced a foldout bed with a long bench to further emphasize the family hangout vibe.
WHITE & BRIGHT With help from a friend, the Malos painted the camper’s interior walls crisp white in a satin finish that’s easier to scrub. Kate also defined the wall between the living space and the master bedroom by hanging graphic wallpaper for textural interest. (See the Malos’ makeover adventures on Instagram @wanderanddwell.)
