LeCompte wins crown
GOLDEN HILL — Jordan LeCompte was crowned Miss Outdoors 2018 on the opening night of the 73rd National Outdoor Show on Friday, Feb. 23.
LeCompte, 17, is the daughter of Missy and Jody LeCompte of Cambridge. She is a senior at CambridgeSouth Dorchester High School and a student in the cosmetology program at the Dorchester Career and Technology Center.
She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Interact Club and the United State Bowling Congress. Her additional interests include drawing, painting and karaoke.
For her talent, LeCompte performed a tap dance routine to a medley of popular songs, including “Mambo No. 5” and “Single Ladies.”
“Dorchester County has allowed me to create a history of my own,” LeCompte said. “I have been so lucky to be brought up in between urban and rural parts of Maryland.”
LeCompte said she is honored to call Dorchester County her home, and she will represent the county all year as Miss Outdoors.
The big question for this year’s finalists was, “Which is more important to you: to be liked or to be respected?” LeCompte said she would rather be respected but thinks that to be respected often is to be liked, as well.
“They see you as someone that knows the right thing, and if you’re doing the right thing, then you’re living a good life,” she said.
Katherine Bradshaw was named first runner-up and won the talent competition for her performance of Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep.” Alexandria Wallace-Elliott was named second runnerup.
Miss Congeniality was won by Kyla Diggs, as chosen by her fellow contestants.
Friends from Cameron Parish, Louisiana’s Fur and Wildlife Festival were introduced by their own Miss Cameron Parish 2018 Maeleigh Conner and Little Miss Cameron Parish 2018 Olivia Boudreaux.
Conner said there were no words to explain how excited she was when she won her most recent crown. She was part of the Outdoor Show delegation last year as she was Fur Festival Queen 2017.
