Gil­bert F. Dod­son

CAM­BRIDGE — Gil­bert F. Dod­son, 94, of Cam­bridge, passed away on Satur­day, March 31, 2018, at his home, with his lov­ing fam­ily by his side. He was born in Cam­bridge on Dec. 14, 1923, and was a son of the late John Franklin Dod­son and Blanche Bell Dod­son.

Mr. Dod­son grad­u­ated from Cam­bridge High School class of 1940. He proudly served his coun­try in the U.S. Army and was a dec­o­rated vet­eran of WWII. On June 10, 1948, he mar­ried the for­mer El­iz­a­beth Sim­mons, who passed away on Sept. 10, 2014.

Mr. Dod­son worked at Deshields and Leonards, and later at Sears Roe­buck as a ser­vice re­pair­man and later as the Ser­vice Man­ager. Fol­low­ing his re­tire­ment from Sears, he went on to be­come the Main­te­nance Fore­man at Eas­ton Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal. Not one to re­main idle, he con­tin­ued work­ing with Terry Tub­man, a life­long friend, at Dorch­ester An­tiques. He en­joyed play­ing golf, and bowl­ing, and was a mem­ber of the Ch­e­sa­peake Bowl­ing As­so­ci­a­tion, and the Amer­i­can Le­gion Post #91.

He is sur­vived by his four chil­dren: Wal­lace Dod­son and wife Sandy, of Cam­bridge; Ge­orge Dod­son and wife Pa­tri­cia, of New­port News, VA; Joyce Ma­lik, of Cam­bridge; Brenda Dill and hus­band Ralph, of Kil­marnock, VA; 10 grand­chil­dren; 14 great grand­chil­dren; one brother, Fred­die Dod­son, of Horn­town, VA; two sis­ters: Glo­ria Whitby, of Eas­ton; Dawn Hol­land, of New­comb; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides his par­ents and his wife, Mr. Dod­son was pre­ceded in death by a great grand­daugh­ter, Karo­line Dod­son; two sis­ters; and two brothers.

A memo­rial ser­vice will be held on Fri­day, April 6, 11:30 a.m. at Thomas Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Cam­bridge, with Rev. Dale Kro­tee of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at the Mary­land East­ern Shore Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery near Hur­lock. Fam­ily will re­ceive friends one hour prior to the ser­vice.
